Business cards are small, but they’re essential to a company’s brand. Your company culture, brand aesthetic, and memorability can often hinge on your card when you meet people at events. Ivory paper, text-only, conservative fonts suggest “business formal” and might match people working in law and finance, while more playful and colorful designs might match startups and creator studios better. The psychology of fonts and color schemes might inform the reader as to what type of work you do, but at the end of the day, cards are there to remind people of who you are and what your story is. 2D business cards typically can only fit 7 words of “story”, typically in the form of a motto. On the other hand, 3D business cards can easily fit 100 and even up to 150 words of text, not just of what your company is, but also with highlights of what you do and your role in the company! In the arms race between your business and the everyday evolving technology, an AR 3D business card might be your ticket to getting ahead in the networking game and taking your business to the next level.

Creating a good business card is not an easy task, and knowing what goes on there helps create a card that is eye-catching and memorable. With the huge strides in AR technology, now you have the option to incorporate an extended reality programming onto your business card and customize it in so many different ways.

So what’s the case for 3D cards over 2D cards? The answer boils down to the very purpose of a business card, information and leaving an impression. Let’s talk about how the two types compare and why this technological wonder will always win.

Space constraints:

The standard size of a business card is 3.5" x 2.0", which allows for a limited amount of raw information like your name, company, maybe a motto, and a website (which the reader will hopefully look up later).

Depending on how much space you dedicate to your logo and contact info, you may only have enough space for three to seven words. Of course, seven words can’t really do justice to your company’s work. With 3D cards, you will be able to completely overcome the physical space limitations and easily include up to 100 words of  information! Many experts argue that more text increases the opportunity to help people remember the business and convinces them that this business is what’s missing from their lives. These will include everything you can put on a traditional 2D business card, plus:

  • Pictures and Videos: Complex and sometimes multiple ideas can be conveyed by a single image or video, which conveys its meaning or essence more effectively than a mere verbal description. So why not include a charming headshot, or even a greeting video from you or company leadership to tell people what you do?

  • Website and Socials: Maybe your business has multiple social links, or you would like to include more than just your LinkedIn? All of these different platforms can be included on your card and will appear as interactive icons hovering over your card on your client’s camera. And by embedding these as digital links, people can easily tap to go straight to your email, website, or socials, avoiding the possibility that they’ll misspell it or just not get around to adding you!

  • 3D Experience: The cool thing about having a 3D projection of your business card is that it will allow you to also include 3D models of your business. Whether you’re showcasing a product, or a design, your client will be able to view an animated 3D model and even interact with it.

  • Customizable Menu:

3D business cards allow you to add a user-friendly interface that will feature a menu to find content and use features such as save your information, call your number, or send you an email with one tap only, so you don’t have to worry about typos when they copy your info or any of that jazz!

With the evolving world of technology, we can’t deny that the traditional 2D business cards are being gradually phased out and replaced by more advanced ways of connection. AR business cards are still an attractive novelty, which is why they will make your business stand out by impressing your clients and leaving a lasting impression. Additionally, the small space of the 2D cards will never be sufficient to comprehensively describe your company. Which is why you should do right by your business and allow the 3D cards to represent it properly.
